Accessibility & Inclusivity Policy

We want every visitor to Pengenna Manor to feel welcome, relaxed, and able to fully enjoy their time with us, whether that’s celebrating a wedding, staying in the manor house, attending a corporate event or private party, or just visiting for a viewing appointment.

Pengenna is the ultimate location for gathering, for slowing down, for joy. And that joy should be accessible to all. Despite some of our buildings being over 800 years old, we have worked hard to accommodate access and special requirements wherever possible, and to ensure our space is inclusive and thoughtful.

As a venue led by an LGBTQIA+ owner, we thoroughly welcome all genders, religions and cultures and believe that everyone has the right to marry whomever they wish. We have hosted many happy celebrations of all kinds for LGBTQIA+ couples over the years, a diverse range of religious ceremonies of all kinds, including Hindu and Asian weddings, helped couples follow special cultural traditions such as Czechoslovakian dances, Sardinian Sa Ratzia, and Chinese toasting rituals, all ensuring that everyone feels at ease and has a great celebration.

Below you’ll find detailed information about our access features, and if you’d like to chat about anything before your visit, we’re only a phone call or email away. Contact us here.

Step-free Access
• Where there are steps, we have also designed in ramped access too. Our main event space, The Cowyard Barn, has different stepped floor levels but again, each of these is accessible with ramps or level access.
• We have a fully disabled compliant toilet, and we have ground-floor accommodation inside the Manor.
• We offer drop-off points for disabled guests right outside of each building, with accessible parking bays immediately adjacent to the main areas of the venue.
• All the main areas of the grounds are wheelchair accessible with flat pathways linking all parts of the gardens with specially graded wheelchair-friendly gravel, and all key areas of the grounds are lit at night to help with way-finding.
• We have a fully accessible and disabled compliant toilet adjacent to both event spaces.
• Additional seating is provided across the entire venue for people to take rest breaks whilst they use all of the spaces (such as inside the toilets and cloakrooms).

Accommodation
While our historic 13th-century manor house retains original features, we can advise on which bedrooms may be suitable for those with limited mobility, and in particular, we have a downstairs bedroom and a downstairs shower room, both with step-free access. Where fully accessible wheelchair guest accommodation is required, we can arrange local alternative accommodation.

Deaf or Hard of Hearing
• We’re happy to provide written versions of wedding day schedules or announcements ahead of time, if requested.
• Additional signage can be set up to help with way-finding.
• The acoustics in both our barns are excellent, and both spaces are equipped with PA systems that can help with clarity for speeches and ceremonies.
• Our team is on hand to support couples who wish to bring a BSL interpreter for their ceremony.
• We’re also happy to work with couples and suppliers on captioned videos or ceremony readings, if that helps guests feel more included.

Additional Support
• Assistance dogs are warmly welcomed, as are all dogs throughout the venue, and they can stay over in the accommodation too.
• We’re happy to store mobility aids, sensory items, or medical equipment securely during the day.
• Our team is here to support you – please just let us know your needs and we’ll do our utmost to accommodate them.

Neuro-divergency
We have always taken great care to assist couples with varying neurodivergent requirements:

• We can put in place extra support and planning to ensure that any parts of the wedding or event that may be difficult are considered ahead of time and options are available to either step out of the room to a calm and quiet area, or to alert us so that we can step in to help.
• Seating plans can be specially tailored for neurodivergent guests to feel at ease and next to an exit.
• There are alternative low-level lighting options in both of our function spaces and inside the accommodation.
• The Stables can be set up as a calm quiet space for those needing a break away from the main party in the Cowyard Barn.

Planning your visit
We know that accessibility means different things to different people. If you’re unsure whether the venue will meet your needs or the needs of someone in your party, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re always happy to talk things through and find solutions together.

We believe that creating an inclusive and welcoming space is an ongoing journey. If you have any suggestions or feedback on how we can improve access at Pengenna Manor, we’d love to hear from you.
